            Confirmation Information

                 NIGHT OF REFLECTION FOR ALL 9TH GRADE STUDENTS. MARCH 21st, 7-8 P.M. IN THE CHURCH

Both our 9th and 10th Grade Curriculums also involve confirmation preparation which include: 2 Nights of Reflection to be attended in each grade and a completed Service Ministry through our Religious Ed office. (see below)

9th Grade  Nights of Reflection: NOVEMBER 15TH, 2016 at 7 p.m..in the parish hall AND March 21st, 2017 at 7 p.m. in church.
10th Grade Nights of Reflection: December 6th, 2016 at 7 p.m. in the parish hall AND March 7th, 2017 at 7 p.m. also in the parish hall.
 
*11th Grade : Night of Reflection: Date TBA
** AND a teaching Mass AND  rehearsal with your Sponsor: Date TBA
Also, if you wish to be included in the program. eligible students will return a completed application and signed commitment letter no later than September 1st, 2017

SERVICE – WORK DONE FOR OTHERS

MINISTRY – TO GIVE HELP FREELY

Service Ministry helps our Confirmation Candidates understand that helping others is integral to our faith.  It involves the giving of oneself without any payment or gratuity.  It involves the Christian act of giving of oneself in service for another. Jesus told us to “Love one another as I love you”. (John 15: 12)

Our Confirmation program includes Ministry in an area of service to our church.

Below you will find a list of the Service Ministry opportunities offered to our Grade 9 students. We have a number of choices from which our students may select.

Please go over the list with your child and help pick out a Ministry. It is important that this decision is made together because your child may need a ride to and from the parish in order to fulfill this obligation.

The following projects will get you involved in one or more of our parish activities so that you can work as a member of a team, with other members of our parish.

After your student signs up, please mark the date on your calendar, as we count on the student being able to fulfill the obligation.

If there is a conflict, please call our office ASAP so that arrangements may possibly be made to cover the position.

ALTAR SERVERS: Students can serve at various Masses on Saturdays, Sundays, Weddings, or Funerals.

BAPTISMAL AIDES:  Orientation with a member of the Baptismal team and participation at three (3) Baptisms. The student will work with members of the parish liturgy team at the Baptisms of our new Christians.  Baptisms are usually held on the first and third Sundays of the month. a schedule will be given.

CHOIR: Our parish has a number of choirs/musical groups that sing and play at our Masses. An interview is likely required.

CHURCH DECORATING: Students are needed to help decorate the church for the Advent/Christmas AND the Lenten/Easter seasons. (Christmas Eve and Holy Saturday) We will notify you of specific times.

CATHOLIC CHARITIES: Catholic Charities is an annual drive in our Catholic churches during Lent. The students will visit   grades 1-5 on  Saturday mornings 9-11:30 and grades 1-3 Monday’s 5:30-6:30 P.M. to hand out envelopes and speak to the students. They will also have to collect the envelopes and help count the donations and wrap the change. Usually during the Lenten season (exact dates to be announced).

GROUNDS AND CHURCH CLEAN-UP:    Fall/Spring clean-up outside – or cleaning the church or religious education classrooms. Saturday or Sunday  mornings.  Approx. 3-4 hrs.

SPECIAL EVENTS WITH CHILDREN: Volunteers help children with games, hand out candy, and help to clean-up

  • Parish  Halloween Party, help us Saturday October 22nd, 10:30 -1:30 p.m.
  • Parish Easter Egg Hunt  help us on the Saturday before Easter (Holy Saturday) 8:00-11:00a.m.

OFFICE AIDE: Service in the Religious Education Office:  Saturdays from 9:00 -11:30 a.m., or Monday evenings from 5– 7 p.m. Duties might include passing out supplies, helping teachers or general office work in our office.

SACRAMENTAL AIDES: Students are asked to be greeters and serve as hospitality committee (serving refreshments) and cleaning up afterwards. Please Attend 2 of the following.

       *Hosting Reconciliation Service Celebration in parish hall:          

        2 Saturday’s    March 11, and March 18th. 11:30-2:00

  • Hosting our 1st Communion students celebration  with a Bread Party :  Sunday, March 5th and Sunday, April 2nd, 8:30-10:30

SUMMER OFFICE HELP: General office duties when needed in the summer. Help getting classrooms ready for classes. Putting textbooks into classrooms, etc..

TEACHER’S AIDE: Service  during a session of Religious Education classes.
Sat. 9:00 A.M. – 10:00 A.M. Session I
Sat. 10:30-11:30 A.M. Session II
Mon 5:30-6:30 P.M.

Aides will be assigned to a classroom when a teacher needs assistance. Confirmed students may student teach.

USHERS: Train with current ushers to support the team during various Mass times.
